The blue sea and the golden beaches of fine sand have characterized Pozzallo, which has been a blue and green flag (sea suitable for children) for about 20 years.

The typical local hospitality and the Mediterranean climate make the travel offers in Pozzallo a typical destination with a Sicilian character.

Built around the fifteenth century, at first as a summer residence of the Count of Modica Bernardo Cabrera, Pozzallo subsequently took on the task of defending the warehouses full of grain from the County of Modica.
Today the country’s economy is completely oriented towards tourism, thanks to the sea and its magnificent coast, surrounded by beautiful and long beaches of African sand, fine and golden, bathed by a clear and clean sea.

For some years from the port of Pozzallo it has been possible to reach the nearby island of Malta and, thirty kilometers further south, Tunisia.

The Torre Palazzo Cabrera, one of the symbols of the city, is today connected to the Caricatore area (the old warehouses) by a wooden walkway, built over the sea. The walkway allows access to the Zarbatana, the area where the vast warehouses built in the eighteenth century were located, modernized and now the site of very flourishing commercial activities as it is located near one of the nerve centers of the city, or Piazza delle Rimembranze. A very spacious square framed by three liberty-style buildings Palazzo Pandolfi, Palazzo Giunta and Palazzo Musso that qualify the historic center and are the tangible sign of the power of the local families of the twentieth century that have marked the history of the town.

Near the Tower, behind the central square, is the Vanedda Vicci, a charming village that represents the first urban agglomeration of Pozzallo. This part of the country is one of a kind. Even today, walking through its streets, it is possible to imagine that simple everyday life present in the past centuries, where the narrow alleys housed the first food shops for the sale of flour, cereals, oil, wine and salt authorized by the County Governor. Low houses, joined to each other and forming irregularly sized alleys, creating fascinating views. La Vanedda Vicci is the ideal place where representations of Christmas nativity scenes and cultural and food and wine events throughout the year often find space.

In the northern part of the ancient part of Pozzallo, near the Mother Church, it is possible to see the native house of Giorgio La Pira, the most illustrious citizen of Pozzallo. Politician and jurist of great value, he was a leading personality in the Catholic world, as well as mayor of Florence. The Town Hall was named after Giorgio La Pira in 1979, with an elegant ceremony, a building that has a geometrically perfect, U-shaped facade with side elevations that give it a harmonious and elegant line. Built in 1926 on the Caricatore cliff by the Marquis Corrado Tedeschi, the Palazzo di Città is now flanked by the splendid Villa Comunale. Residence of the family of the Rizzone Tedeschi marquises, on its main facade it has nine large windows with stylistic features of the late nineteenth century and halls decorated with stucco and elegant friezes.

The history and experience of Pozzallo narrated by its streets, its buildings and the waves of the sea that connect it to different cultures, speak of a country full of historical references to see and discover in every corner. Not far away, the Island of Malta, Syracuse and all the splendor of the Sicilian coasts are waiting to be visited thanks to last minute travel offers in Pozzallo.
