Marzamemi
Where the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea meet, at the southern end of Sicily, stands Marzamemi, a characteristic fishing village that represents the ideal destination for a holiday of sea, culture and good food. The history of the city is inextricably linked to the sea: the tuna fishery is a historical testimony to the importance that tuna fishing has always had for the country’s economy. Even today, small artisan tuna and swordfish processing industries represent the main economic activities, to which however tourism has been added.
1 – La Tonnara
The symbolic attraction of Marzamemi is the Tonnara, one of the oldest and most important in Sicily. Today elegantly furnished and used for private events and receptions, the Tonnara remains a historical testimony to the indissoluble bond between the city and the sea.
2 – The fishermen’s houses of Marzamemi
Walking through the alleys of this seaside village, you will be able to admire the fishermen’s houses located a stone’s throw from the sea. Small, low and made of warmly colored rock, these were humble homes, no longer inhabited today, but they have not lost their charm. The most beautiful is undoubtedly “the oven house”, where bread was produced for the whole town.

Walking through the streets I asked myself several times what Marzamemi would be like without tourists. What would it be without the locals who make its square alive and fill the old fishermen’s houses. It is probably thanks to the large number of tourists that today this village can still release its beauty, its charm imbued with the smell of fish, looking like an open-air museum
